Alpharetta, Georgia, May 2003–RRegency Hospital Company is pleased to announce David Berkey as Chief Executive Officer of its newest long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital, Regency Hospital of Northwest Indiana located in East Chicago, Indiana within St. Catherine Hospital. “David Berkey is an excellent choice for Regency Hospital. His vast healthcare experience coupled with his knowledge of the healthcare marketplace make him an excellent fit for the Regency team,” stated Rod Laughlin, President and CEO of Regency Hospital Company. Mr. Berkey is highly experienced in Business Development and Physician Relations and will guide the hospital in creating an outstanding clinical LTAC program.

Mr. Berkey has fourteen years of progressive experience in hospital management, strategic planning, physician network development, physician office and hospital operations, as well as community and government affairs and fund raising. He has been a member of management implementation teams for three separate hospital system operation mergers and is considered an expert in implementing and creating working partnerships within the healthcare community.

Our focus is on achieving outstanding clinical outcomes for patients who have suffered from catastrophic illness and/or have medically complex issues. The key to our patients’ success will be in the clinical program Regency offers,” commented Berkey.

Prior to joining Regency, Mr. Berkey worked with St. Catherine Hospital as Vice President of Business Development, Planning and Physician Services. He also worked as Corporate Director in Marketing and Government Affairs for Columbia Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Mr. Berkey served as Corporate Director for various other healthcare systems and nonprofit hospitals.

Mr. Berkey received an MBA in Health Administration from Temple University and a BBA in Marketing from the University of Toledo. He is a member of the Chicago Health Executives Forum, Health Administration Alumni Association and he received the Businessman of the Year Award from the Little Village Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Berkey is very active in the East Chicago community, serving as a member of the Board of Directors for several charitable organizations.
